I never thought the day would come when I was in the weed business.

As a young person I was a big fan of getting high, especially on days when I skipped school. In college things really ramped up, and I experimented with all kinds of substances that were illegal. After graduation I stopped doing drugs, and rarely drank liquor, but I still enjoy the bite of cannabis smoke in my lungs. There is something so calming to me about marijuana, it really does help manage my stress. So imagine my delight and surprise when I was offered an investment opportunity in a local cannabis dispensary. It was a major risk, because in order to “buy in” to the cannabis shop I would need to “cash out” all my investments, my 401k, and my retirement fund. I would also need to accept the fact I wouldn’t draw a salary for several months. Even though it was going to be a huge risk I decided to become a part of the new cannabis dispensary. It takes all new businesses several months to start turning a profit, and a cannabis shop is no different. My partners and I worked long hours for no pay, trying to give the best customer service and develop a loyal group of regulars for the cannabis shop. Slowly but surely our hard work is paying off, and cannabis sales are rising a little bit every month. Very soon the cannabis shop should be profitable enough we can start getting paid! After that we will look into hiring the budtenders to work for us.

I am always game to try something new, it is part of my adventurous personality.

For example, whenever I go to the bar I tell the bartender to bring me the cocktail they make the very best.

I never choose the drink, I let the barkeep bring me something they think is good. Sometimes it works out, and other times not so much, but I always have that element of surprise. Recently I did something similar with my friends at the cannabis dispensary. Instead of buying marijuana like normal, we all bought something we hadn’t tried before. I purchased a variety of cannabis drinks, including fruit juice, lemonade, soda, and purified water that had been enriched with THC and CBD. My friend Ike bought a new flavor of cannabis wax he could use with his dab rig. Sarah got a disposable vape pen that was preloaded with three different cannabis oils. That was a neat product called a “randomized vaporizer” which gave you a random hit of one of the cannabis oils every time. We spent that night getting wild at my place, indulging in our new cannabis products. I made cocktails using cannabis drinks, vodka, and ice, and that kicked things into overdrive! It was a fun night, but I must admit by the end of the night I was ready to pack a bowl of traditional cannabis flower. All the new cannabis products were fun to play around with, but there is no substitute for the real thing. Cannabis buds freshly picked from the plant will always be the best way to get high.

I started messing around with cannabis edibles during the COVID lockdown.

I make pasta dishes, seafood, and freshly-baked bread, all of which are enhanced with cannabis oil that I make myself. The essence of cooking with cannabis is the oil. Once I mastered the art of infusing cannabis into extra-virgin olive oil, I unlocked all the secrets I needed. Once the olive oil has been enriched with the power of cannabis, it transfers that flavor and that THC potency into every ingredient it touches. I finely chop some veggies and then saute them in cannabis oil, and now I have the base for a delicious pasta sauce that will get me super stoned. Another great thing about cannabis oil is that it is shelf-stable, which means it will keep for a while. I made one huge batch of cannabis oil which lasted me for a few weeks. If you want to bring a bottle of wine, come over for dinner sometime.

I finally gave into Sheryl’s request to have her friends over for a sleepover party to mark the beginning of summer vacation.

She had earned it and it was only fair that I give in.

It kind of brought back memories from my college days when my own parents would allow me to hang out with friends as long as we were cautious. It was one of the coolest things even back then. I helped buy the sacks, drinks, and cool games just to help ensure that everything was legal. I promised to give them space so when they were settled I snack out back to enjoy a refreshing puff away from the girls. I had picked this new OG Kush blend that I was dying to sample so this was such a treat. On the surface one would easily mistake me for the old-too-goody mom but beyond this I enjoyed a glass of cold beer and some refreshing stash of cannabis for a stress free evening. In fact most parents were like me and I knew a few who enjoyed weed just that their kids were unaware. When enjoying my private moments I suddenly realized that Sheryl’s friend was staring at me. I didn’t act quick enough as she noticed what I was doing and came to me. She too was out here trying to hit her cannabis vape pen. We agreed to keep each other’s secrets and assume nothing happened. To seal our pact I gave her my stash and she allowed me vape hers. I was pleasantly surprised as I had never vaped cannabis oil before, but this new experience was fantastic. As I watched her leave I could help but pray that she keeps my secret as I was sworn to secrecy not to tell her parents about their daughter’s secret love.

Crazy cousin Louis came over with a few of his rowdy friends the other night.We have always been close since the days Aunty Patty would leave me in charge when she went for work.

Right now I work and he attended a college close to my workplace. This makes it easy for us to hang out occasionally when I am available. But Louis had become such a party animal and this time he wanted to drag me into their scheme. He claimed that I didn’t know how to party just because I did my stuff with a lot of moderation. By the end of it although, I concluded that smoking cannabis was more my style as I had things under control all through. Although the oils and wax were great, they are not my thing.
