My parents are very old-fashioned and said in their ways. My dad still goes to work every morning at 5:00 a.m. and he works until the sun goes down. My mom stays at home. She cooks breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My dad thinks that a woman should be in the kitchen taking care of a man and my mom thinks that is an acceptable attitude. I know that I can’t change my parents when it comes to their gender roles in their relationship, but I thought I might be able to change their mind about recreational marijuana. I started using recreational marijuana about a year ago. I don’t live close to my parents, so I don’t have to explain anything to them unless I go for a visit. When I planned a visit, I knew that the subject was going to come up, because I was planning to use recreational marijuana while I was there. I tried to approach the subject with my mom on the phone. I mentioned all of the medical marijuana studies. I told my mom that medical marijuana has been proven to help with anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, and ptsd. My mom did not want to hear anything that I had to say. I thought it would be easier to convince her if we were talking in person. When I was there for a visit, I brought up medical marijuana again. This time my mom got upset and she wanted to know if I was on drugs. She called the pastor at the church and he came over to talk to me. They staged an intervention, just because I brought up the subject.
