It’s hard to avoid alcohol completely when you grow up in a family full of drinkers.
- My dad, uncle, and grandfather were all alcoholics, as well as my grandmother on my mom’s side of the family.
Anytime we had a family gathering, there were multiple kinds of alcohol being served. I’m talking about beer, wine, champagne, whiskey, vodka, and rum at the bare minimum to satisfy everyone’s thirst for alcohol. By the time I was 14, my family offered me wine, beer, and whiskey in that order. When I got to college, I was years ahead of my peers when it came to alcohol tolerance. This was a recipe for disaster in a party college where local gas stations would sell you booze under the age of 21 if you showed them a school ID instead of a driver’s license. I still graduated, but it was a rough four years where my GPA was always being threatened by my chaotic partying habits. When I graduated and managed to secure a good job, I knew that it was time to get serious. But it wasn’t until recently that I finally quit drinking for good, and it wasn’t for a reason most would have. I decided that I wanted to buy more CBD so I could increase my daily doses, and it seemed like the only way to get the money was by removing something from my budget every month. Alcohol was the only thing I was willing to give up, so I did. Little did I know that my alcohol consumption was actually contributing to the anxiety that I was using CBD to treat. Now I feel better than ever and I have CBD to thank for that. It not only treats my anxiety directly, but it also indirectly led me to quitting a nasty habit that had a significant impact on my anxiety from the start.
